Summary: As a Legal Officer at Personal Trust, you will play a crucial role in the Corporate Services Department by providing daily legal support. Your responsibilities will include legal advisory duties, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations, and managing legal agreements to uphold the bank’s legal position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies such as CBN, NDIC, CAC, etc.
  • Review all agreements with institutional service providers and oversee their complete implementation.
  • Process the prompt execution and sealing of agreements and documents.
  • Guide and ensure compliance with local and federal legislation.
  • Provide legal support to HR, Credit, Recovery, Compliance, and Operations departments.
  • Negotiate, draft, review, and finalize legal agreements, contracts, and documents.
  • Represent the bank in court, liaising with relevant court officials and external solicitors on a case-by-case basis.
  • Support the Company Secretary & Head, Legal in preparing materials for Statutory Meetings.
  • Prepare litigation cases, ensuring proper follow-up and reporting on case status with proper escalation to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of the Legal Department.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of BL, LLB Law.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-call experience.
  • Evidence of completion/exemption from NYSC.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a legal practitioner in a microfinance bank or the financial sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mortgage transactions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Nigerian legal system.
