Job Description:

We are in search of a dynamic and seasoned Lawyer to enhance our legal team at Milano Properties. As a vital member of our organization, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in offering legal counsel, ensuring compliance, and managing legal affairs related to real estate transactions and property development.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice to the company on real estate transactions, contracts, and property development matters.
  • Conduct legal research to stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and agreements, including purchase agreements, lease agreements, and construction contracts.
  • Ensure that all legal documents comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct legal due diligence on real estate transactions to identify potential risks and legal issues.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments to integrate legal considerations into business decisions.
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings and manage external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement effective litigation strategies.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local and national real estate laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks.
  • Stay updated on zoning laws, land use regulations, and environmental regulations affecting real estate projects.
  • Assist in obtaining necessary permits and approvals for property development projects.
  • Mediate disputes between the company and clients, contractors, or other parties.
  • Protect the company’s intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Conduct thorough title reviews to ensure the legitimacy of property titles.
  • Advise on title clearance procedures and resolve any title-related issues that may arise during property transactions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) Degree from a recognized institution.
  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience in real estate law.
  • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian real estate laws, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Skills:

  • Familiarity with property and contract law, as well as corporate and commercial law.
  • Proficient in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and leases.
  • Skill in reviewing property titles and addressing any issues related to title clearance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address legal challenges and find effective solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the legal team and cross-functionally with other departments.
  • Effective negotiation skills to secure favorable terms in contracts and the ability to mediate disputes between parties.
  • Ability to stay updated on changes in laws and regulations, ensuring the company’s compliance with zoning laws, land use regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High ethical standards and sound judgment to guide the company in legal and compliance matters.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate evolving legal landscapes and respond to changing business needs.
